Well Design and Construction
Layne’s experienced geologists, engineers, and well drillers properly design and construct wells to maximize yields and longevity, whether for a single well or an entire well field. SOURCE OF SUPPLY INVESTIGATIONS
Our hydrologists and engineers combine existing and proprietary modeling solutions with field data to develop resource strategies to meet future needs using Source of Supply Investigations to systematically evaluate water supply options. This includes modeling all available water sources and rating them based on yield, reliability, water quality, infrastructure, and lowest delivery cost. AQUIFER CHARACTERIZATION
Layne can estimate the hydraulic properties of a system such as transmissivity, hydraulic conductivity, storage coefficient, and aquifer boundaries by running an aquifer test. During the test, a well is pumped at the highest sustainable rate for a determined amount of time (typically 24-96 hours), while water levels are recorded in three to four nearby monitoring wells. Layne can estimate the hydraulic properties of a system such as transmissivity, hydraulic conductivity, and the storage coefficient and also identify aquifer boundaries. The hydraulic properties estimated through an aquifer test aid in determining the yield and drawdown that can be expected at a location. This information can guide the well field design phase to formulate the most efficient design.
WELL DESIGN
Experienced hydrogeologists, geologists, and engineers use site-specific hydrogeologic data to design wells and well fields. We can use existing data or design a field investigation to gather the necessary data to site a well and develop a design that will maximize yields.
WELL CONSTRUCTION
No single method of well construction suits all purposes. Layne’s licensed well drillers construct and develop new wells to maximize specific well capacity by considering not only geologic factors, but the intended use and available budget to best suit our client’s needs.
DRILL RIG FLEET
Layne owns and operates the necessary drilling fleet for a variety of geologic conditions, including:
- Conventional Rotary
- Diamond Core
- Dual Percussion Hammer
- Dual Rotary
- Dual Wall Reverse
- Reverse Circulation
