Granite Hires Richard M. Rantala to Head Business Development

WATSONVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Granite Construction Incorporated (NYSE:GVA) announced today that Richard M. Rantala has been named senior vice president of Business Development reporting to Granite executive vice president and chief operating officer, Christopher S. Miller.

Rantala will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Company’s business development and sales efforts for the Transportation, Water, Federal, Oil & Gas, Commercial & Industrial, Mining and Rail end markets.

“Rich is a proven leader and he knows what it takes to drive growth in our diverse end markets,” Miller said. “With over 30 years of experience in our industry, Rich has a deep understanding of our customers’ needs and is a valuable addition to the Granite team.”

Rantala joins Granite from Balfour Beatty where he most recently served as Vice President of National Business Acquisition. In that role he was responsible for developing new business opportunities and strategic relationships across ten divisions throughout the U.S. After joining Balfour Beatty in 2001, Rantala was part of a small team that opened their Charlotte office, growing it to be one of the company’s most successful operations.

Rantala has a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Ohio University.
