Granite Construction Company Awarded $93 Million Turnpike Project in Central Florida

WATSONVILLE, Calif., May 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Granite Construction Incorporated (NYSE: GVA) announced today that Granite Construction Company, a wholly owned subsidiary, has been awarded a $93 million contract by the Florida Department of Transportation's Florida Turnpike Enterprise for the widening of six miles of the Florida Turnpike (SR 91) in Central Florida.

The full scope of the project includes the widening of the turnpike from four lanes to eight lanes from Interstate 4 to Gotha Road. Also included is the widening of the Turnpike Bridges over Interstate 4 and Apopka-Vineland Road, as well as reconstruction of the Kirkman Road and Gotha Road bridges.

The project also includes the installation of six miles of decorative sound barrier, all lighting, signing and marking, construction of storm water retention ponds, resurfacing existing pavement, landscaping and utilities. The project is scheduled to begin in July 2007 and estimated to be completed by spring 2010.
