Granite Named 2023 IRTBA Sustainability Champion
Granite has been named the 2023 Sustainability Champion by the IRTBA Sustainability Council for its work on the Joint Venture Cicero Ogden Intermodal Civil Improvements Project with K-Five Construction. The project, recognized for its innovative and sustainable practices, achieved an 11,000 cubic yards reduction in excavation and recycled 23,000 tons of aggregate base material on-site, demonstrating a commitment to reducing environmental impact. Beyond on-site measures, the team repurposed 64,000 cubic yards of embankment, reducing 150,000 miles of material transportation, landfill use, and associated emissions.
Granite leadership consistently supported sustainability during the project, utilizing the Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework and employing Certified Envision Sustainable Professionals to track and measure sustainability metrics. This dedication extends beyond individual projects, as Granite actively advocates for sustainable construction as a member of influential organizations like IRTBA, Wisconsin Road Builders, and the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. The company's recognition as the Sustainability Champion underscores its industry leadership and commitment to creating a more sustainable future.
"I am immensely proud of our team's dedication to sustainability, as reflected in our recognition as the IRTBA Sustainability Champion. This award underscores our commitment to innovative and environmentally responsible practices,” said Ryan Clark, Granite Vice President of Regional Operations. “It is a testament to our unwavering belief that sustainable construction is not just a responsibility but a transformative force shaping a more resilient and eco-conscious future for our industry."
