Nevada Region Wins 2023 PINNACLE Awards and Safety Recognition from AGC
The Associated General Contractors of America’s Nevada Chapter (AGC) honored Granite's Nevada Region with two 2023 Projects in Northern Nevada Achieving Construction Leadership Excellence (PINNACLE) awards. The first is in the Contractor's Excellence – Public Sector Under $10 Million category for the Incline Village General Improvement District project, and the second is in the Sustainability & Sensitivity to Environment, History and/or Culture category for the Derby Dam Horizontal Fish Screen Bridge Raising project. The team was also awarded with the Best Overall Safety Record for Contractors over 500,000 Man Hours.
Contractor's Excellence – Public Sector Under $10 Million
The Contractor’s Excellence award recognizes Granite’s position as an industry-leading contractor in Northern Nevada and the exemplary construction leadership and excellence in innovation demonstrated by the project team. The Incline Village General Improvement District project installed welded steel pipe and Class 350 Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) in NDOT ROW along Highway 28. The work also included abandonment of existing effluent export pipeline, traffic control, erosion and sediment controls, pavement restoration, and replacement of existing features, utilities, and vegetation removed or damaged by construction activity.
Sustainability & Sensitivity to Environment, History and/or Culture
The Derby Dam fish screen supports fish movement along the Truckee River, restoring habitat connectivity and supporting the recovery of the threatened Lahontan Cutthroat Trout population. In addition to improving watershed connectivity, the fish screen also benefits agriculture, fishing, and recreation in northwestern Nevada. The project was delivered using the collaborative Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) procurement method.
Best Overall Safety Record for Contractors over 500,000 Man Hours
The AGC recognizes members for excelling in safety performance and their commitment to safety and occupational health management. The Nevada Region completed 2023 with zero OSHA recordable injuries, a testament to the safety culture the region has developed over the years. This has been made possible by frontline leadership in the field, especially our superintendent group, a robust onboarding process, and an organization-wide commitment to our safety programs at all levels of the region.
